Trendy Wendy – Rosy Rings

by Trendy Wendy

Diamonds are a girls best friend, especially this girl 😉 but that diamond isn’t going to float on air, is it? I’m a bit tired of platinum and white gold, lovelies, and something’s got my little winter ears to pep up–rose gold! A beautiful blush color, rose gold rings give a warm and vintage feeling. Try the Champagne Peach ring from Eidel Precious (for a steal at $850!) or be totally unique with this great floral ring from Macy’s.

Trendy Wendy – Everything Wood Grain

by Trendy Wendy

gratitude journal from Wiley Valentine

Gorgeous girls, I am simply obsessed with all things woodgrain. It’s fabulous, nostalgic, and natural while still being chic. I love letterpress woodgrain especially as it looks so real. I’m thinking wedding invites. Could go perfect with the right venue aka a garden wedding, forest ceremony, etc. These are some of my fave woodgrains:

How To – Liven Up Cocktail Hour

How To by Jennifer Crone

So you had to cut the budget somewhere, and open bar at cocktail hour was it. You couldn’t live without the Vera Wang dress, and no one will blame you. But just because you’re only serving your guests beer and wine and not jumping on the few years old signature cocktail bandwagon doesn’t mean it has to be snoresville during your cocktail hour.

Honeymoon Wine

Spice it up with fun labels on those bottles and start saving empties to make center pieces with a few stems here and there to save major cash as opposed to having floral arrangements made for each cocktail table.

Try these Victoria Abrami designed bottles for Yarraman Estate’s Barn Buster wines. Each individual bottle represents a unique flavor and embodies a race horse like quality. Try Honeymoon wine for a truly unique bottle and packaging or go with a vintage looking bottle of Red Brick Beer.

For your tabletop decor look for vintage beer and wine bottles from Etsy in various degrees of aged depending in your wedding venue and decor. From sea glass-esque to vintage milk bottles (for a dry wedding), get your creative juices flowing. Group the bottles in 3 or 5 (depending on size) with different long stem flowers in similar (but not the same) colors. Have fun!

How To – Little Known Paperies

How To by Jennifer Crone

There’s something to be said for some of the well known online invitation shops. You can get something easy, templated, and simple. But if you want something different that you can guarantee that no one has seen before, try these presses out:

  • Milkmaid Press

Milkmaid Press With invites as sweet as their name, you can’t lose if you’re having a wedding on the casual side. Try their Dragonfly invitation for a spring garden wedding or Aquarelle for a beautiful fresh watercolored spring palette. The folks at Milkmaid can also do custom orders and are very affordable. That’s what we like to see.

  • Olive Hue For thick paper and custom letterpress in unique and organic shapes, Olive Hue is for you. Bonus: They make jewelry as well.
  • Paperfinger If you care more about calligraphy than embellishments, Paperfinger is your perfect source for all things hand drawn and texted. And I don’t mean with a cell phone. They are also happy to work with couples having an eco friendly wedding in several ways.
  • By Invitation Only This Etsy-an knows how to make invites, in sweet little packages complete with belly bands and all. Johnny and River Street are my favorites.
  • Lucky Luxe

Artful Beginnings Fabric Invites? Um, yes please. Also try Lucky Luxe for beautiful invites on hankies. Because some people get teary during nuptials, and because hankies last longer than paper.

Trendy Wendy – White House Black Market Goes Bridal

by Trendy Wendy

The Victoria

My dears, we really lucked out with getting engaged at a perfect time. Every house of fashion is coming out with a line of bridal wear! First J.Crew, now White House Black Market, and with these prices in the hundreds and not thousands, these gowns are the other kind of eco friendly (economy friendly). They only have four styles as of now, but stay tuned for more. Sometimes we forget, but their are other forms of attire for your wedding, including bridesmaids gowns. I love this style for a 1950’s feel. Little black gloves? Tres chic!

A Stress Free Theme: Country Fresh

Manic Mondays by Lauren Cooper

“Not only do I have to pick a color palatte, I have to have a theme too?!”  Don’t worry, choosing a theme doesn’t have to be complicated or extravagant. The theme is meant to reflect a bit of your personality  into the mood of the day.  Some themes can even be fun and stress free like this country fresh theme.

  • Green Apple Photo

Perfect for an outdoor wedding in spring or summer, a country fresh theme is simple, breezy and a little eccletic.  Pick cheerful colors such as yellow or robin’s egg blue …or be bold and add red!  Don’t worry about being “matchy matchy”, instead put together colors and patterns that are unique add to the charm. Try pairing these cute polka dot dishes with striped ones from Fishs Eddy . Think out of the box for table decor and fill vintage tin cans with flowers or use props instead of flowers like picture frames or paper fans.

  • Country Fresh bouquets should be simple and sweet.  You could even pick your own wildflowers and tie with a satin ribbon to be budget friendly, when season permits.  Try a riot of different flowers like daisies, columbine and sunflowers wrapped together, or placed in a basket for you to carry.
  • cards by I Shoot Nouns on Etsy

Sweet antique looking details will add whimsical charm, like fun cake toppers or chalkboard reception signs. These adorable notes are the perfect way to say “thanks”! This particular theme makes it easy to stay in budget and be eco friendly by reusing and recyling found items like this bathtub.

  • Go for casual comfort food when planning around this theme.  Comfort food can be elegant, too, like a rosemary roasted chicken sandwhich with plump tomatoes and avocados from DuMont Restaurant.  At one of our recent weddings, bride Arlene Jackson chose Dinsoaur Bar-B-Que which served down home bbq at its best.

This theme is especially simple and stress free because of its light and casual nature. No matter what your theme is, you’ll stress less if you communicate your likes and dislikes to your planner.  We’ll be able to find those minutae that match your vision and take the pressure off so you can enjoy celebrating your new beginning!

How To – Everything Etsy

How To by Jennifer Crone

All of you dedicated readers know that at Private Receptions we’re all about value and uniqueness and that includes etsy shopping. Most of my themed wedding posts have items hand picked from Etsy. For those of you who don’t know, straight from the horses mouth, “Our mission is to enable people to make a living making things, and to reconnect makers with buyers. Our vision is to build a new economy and present a better choice: Buy, Sell, and Live Handmade.” Etsy spans the globe with buyers and sellers coming from more than 150 countries. You can get some amazing vintage, antique, or hand made items for your wedding, registry, or everyday life. But with so much content, how do you sift through the sea to find what you’re looking for? Here’s How To:

Ouma dress

Search! Just like google, searching for what you want can be helpful…obviously! If you’re trying to find, say, a unique decor item you can search using their super helpful advanced search tool – You can even shop by color! My advice? Browse Etsy without something in mind, but instead let your mouse do the walking. How else will you find a great item like these vintage hand-stamped carnival tickets? Use them as a centerpiece for your casual wedding by placing your flower pots on top of the rolls. Unique and fun!

Go to the editor’s picks section for the best of the best. They see everything that goes into Etsy and know what’s what. Favorite the items or shop you come across that you like, even if that’s not what you’re looking for now. It builds an online rolodex of your fav sellers so later when you know you want a ceramic bowl you can easily find it!

What about your wedding? You can have an entirely Etsy wedding, from a handmade bridesmaid clutch to your invitations. They have an entire category of Wedding items and even a sub category of Something Blue. Thanks Etsy!
