Dress of the Week

A New Year’s Eve Dress of the Week: This David Meister dress has the slightest hint of a pale vintage green and a double layered full skirt I can really get behind. And since your guests will spend so much time gazing at the back of your gown, might as well give them a gorgeous bow to gander at.

Dress of the Week

This week’s gown is all glamour. The Giada dress from Monique Lhuillier’s Spring 2011 collection is for the glamo-phonic bride to be, no doubt. The ivory embroidered organza strapless natural waist corset bodice gown with a trumpet skirt will not go unnoticed.

Let Them Eat Cake!

One of my favorite moments of a wedding is the cutting of the cake.  Mostly because my sweet tooth loves cake but also because it’s fun to watch the newlyweds attempt to smash (or delicately feed) a piece of scrumptious dessert into each others face. (My friends actually got each other in the eyes) Unfortunately, ornate, towering wedding cakes are time consuming and rather expensive creations.  So, if becoming a pastry chef is not in your immediate future, here’s how you can save:

· Stay  traditional with a tiered cake…but keep it to two tiers.  Have a huge guest list?  Get a sheet cake made too, but keep it hidden from the guests.  Use the tiered cake to cut and have the sheet cake in the kitchen.  When the waiters serve the cake, the guests won’t know the difference!

· Rent a cake!  What?!  Fake cakes are available for rental to cut down on cost of high priced bakeries.  The cake is Styrofoam but covered in fondant or butter cream and fully decorated.  Have a sheet cake in the back on hand, and keep the fake cake away from sticky fingers…no one will know!

· Don’t go crazy with flavors.  Or do, but have other options (like a Viennese hour) available for guests so the cake doesn’t disappear.  Although you really cant go wrong with vanilla and butter cream.  Simplicity will keep your costs down.

· Go for simple cake decorations.  Simple can still be elegant and chic.

Dress of the Week

This dress from Amsale says regal and classic, and the bride who chooses this dress is. With its smooth lines and single round crystal detailing, it’s grown up while still being girly. Anyone spotted in this gown will look like the prize winning bride.

TODs Tip: Ties That Rock

groomsmen neckties

Have an alterna-groom? Your guy may want to shine too on your big day, so let him do so with a very cool tie from Cyberoptix TieLab and grab one of their silkscreened ties in your colors. They have bow ties, kids ties, and even wedding packages. And as their slogan says, these ties don’t suck.

Trendy Wendy – Chic Maids Dresses

by Trendy Wendy

Bridesmaid’s dresses don’t have to be hideous. They don’t have to be sub par either. In fact, they can be fabulous. Not spotlight-stealing fabulous, but wear-again and feel-great-in fabulous. With Leona dresses your maids will look chic and color coordinated without being too  matchy matchy, which is the worst possible scenario.

Check out these green dresses, super cute and not all alike. These maids go together while still showing some personality. The black and white is this bride’s favorite dress. Check out the site and pick yours.

See you next week for the hottest! xoxo Wendy

Dress of the Week

This Spring/Summer 2011 Jenny Packham wedding dress is both sexy with a bodice top and ethereal with a flowy skirt. The jewels are divine and the open pleating below is to die for! The belted high waste finishes this dress off beautifully. Can’t you just hear it shimmying around the dance floor during the first dance? Sigh…

TODs Tip: Cheese + Cake = Love

Ladies and gents, you know I’m always telling ya’ll to think outside the box. If:

a) You/Your groom don’t like cake, or

b) You really like cheese,

This cheese cake is for you! It’s especially chic if you’re having a vintage themed or outdoor wedding. Love cheese and cake? Do a cheese cake for your cocktail hour and stick with the traditional sweet cake for your reception. Check it out at The Cheese Shed.

Diary of a Maid of Honor

by Jennifer Crone

Being a wedding planner I have definitely had my share of phone calls and emails regarding bridal nightmares. I’ve had brides with dreams that their groom shows up with an orange tuxedo, or their dress comes out of the bag filthy dirty.

But this week I had my first wedding nightmare, and I’m here to tell you it’s not just the bride who suffers from these midnight terrors. I dreamed that everything went wrong on the day of my sister’s wedding. First of all, most of the dresses were missing from my parents house, and my slip kept changing mysteriously to different lengths. In the limo on the way to the venue (which it turns out was at my local high school, not the beautiful vineyard that my sister chose) we realized we were missing shoes and had to run into the  mall to grab some.

Once we got to walking down the aisle there were empty beer bottles and discarded cups lining it and they tipped over and made a mess as the party walked down the aisle. And when we got to the end, random wedding guests were standing there in our places! I also forgot to write my Maid of Honor speech and realized, to my dismay, that there was no schedule and everything was running in chaos! This bad dream brings about a couple things:

  1. I need to insist on making (or at least approving) a schedule for my sister’s wedding.
  2. I need to get cracking on writing my speech! I have heard some great speeches and also some not so awesome speeches, so I have a pretty good idea of how to give a little funny, a little sappy, and a lot of love to the newlyweds. This week’s project is to write my speech — at least draft 1.

Until next week,

MOH
