Trendy Wednesday: You are the Statement

Trendy Wednesday: Jenna Paniccia

You are a statement piece. This is your day to be the center of attention and create a day filled with inspiring, jaw dropping details. Brides are always looking for ways to be different and do something that is unexpected. The creative aspect always falls into place, but the wedding dress is the true attention stealer of the day. With so many designs and silhouettes to choose from, the options can sometimes be a bit overwhelming.

My suggestion is to pick a few simple silhouettes that you gravitate towards. When you have an idea of the type of dress you are looking for finding the details that adorn the dress is the easy part. Also, it’s a smart idea to pick a few designers that tend to capture your attention. By narrowing down types of dresses you like and designers who understand your vision you save a lot of time when trying on dresses at the bridal boutique.

I am guilty of ripping apart magazines with inspirational pictures. This is such a great way to know exactly what you are looking for when wedding dress shopping. If you have a set of pictures that you love as well as some that you are not interested in at all, picking out a selection will be much easier. Once you have narrowed down a few dresses that you could see yourself getting married in make sure to try on a veil or hat. This is really where you can be creative and over-the-top or simple and traditional. Finishing off the look helps to envision what your pictures will look like and will help visualize the mood of your big day.

Remember that this is your big day. Family members, friends, and bridesmaids all tend to have very strong opinions about your wedding dress. Although their opinions are helpful, you have to be the one who looks and feels amazing in the dress. Make sure you can move around easily, you feel comfortable for a long period of time, and most of all make sure the dress takes your breath away.

Keep Your Head Up-Headpieces Please!

Fashion Fever by Elysha Beckerman

Shortly after picking the dream dress you have been picturing since you were 5 years old it’s time to choose another important piece of the bridal attire — the headpiece.  The history of headpieces can come a bit shocking, ready for a quick wedding lesson?  Headpieces were mainly used for 2 reasons.  First is to hide the bride from the evil spirits that chased her during the wedding day. Second is for a surprise effect since most marriages were arranged and this would be the first moment the groom would see his wife-to-be.

These days, headpieces are mostly worn because of their aesthetically pleasing characteristics and as an alternative to the traditional veil–and there is nothing wrong with that!  So let’s explore some hot headpiece trends that any bride can catch Fashion Fever from.

1st row L. R. Bride's Head Revisited, Leah C., Bride's Head Revisited, Jennifer Behr 2nd row L. R. Leah C., Leah C., Jennifer Behr, Leah C. 3rd row L.R. Jennifer Behr, Jennifer Behr, Sarah Gabriel

  • Great Gatsby Romance–This trend very closely aligns with birdcage veils.  Birdcage veils are a great way to incorporate the traditional veil but also create a modern look with the veil’s accessories and shape.  Birdcage veils can be accented with feathers and flowers to create an even more unique look. For a couture style that emphasizes American classics check out Leah C.

  • Bands Galore -The neon colored elastic headbands we once wore as child (and sometimes even still worn for a quick work out) won’t satisfy this year’s fashion fever.  Were thinking more elegance and glamour!  Silk bands in cream, white, or ash accented by classic pearls and frosted crystals are becoming contagious.  So cure your fever by taking a large dose of Jennifer Behr and her variety of bands.

  • K.I.S.S–Keep It Simple Sister! If you’re staying away from any type of tradition with veils or your wedding dress doesn’t scream headband then what about silk charmeuse flowers or feathers.  Add either or to your wedding hair for a chic look.  Check out Bride’s Head Revisited for a great selection of flowers and feathers.

Michelle Roth and Henry Roth Fall Collection 2010!

Stiles on Style by Rachel Stiles

The Fall 2010 Collection of both Michelle Roth and Henry Roth was impeccable! The runway show took place at the prestigious Kleinfeld Bridal Salon located in Manhattan on Wednesday, April 14! I was able to go and watch the brother and sister duo rock the runway with their bridal collections!

Henry Roth Fall 2010

Henry Roth is well known for a funky and fabulous style of dresses and that definitely showed through his designs! A youthful piece that stood out was the style Zoe; a satin ball gown inspired by 50’s polka dots. Another dress I found unique was the style Gloria, a sweetheart neckline along with a jeweled waist and draping. Texture was really important in both lines and it came through with his style Drew, the silhouette was form fitting and had beautiful flower texture at the bottom of the gown!

Michelle Roth’s line was a bit more romantic and traditional but with a twist! You can really appreciate all of the details on her gowns. Styles Natalie and Natasha were very feminine with frills and draping that demanded attention.  I really loved both styles Nicole and Opera, they both looked very lightweight and comfortable to wear. Nicole had an amazing overlay and draping along with a corset back. Opera was for a standout bride with its princess-style silhouette and an added flair.

For all you fashionistas- these collections eluded confidence and sophistication. The designers both work directly with brides at Kleinfeld’s and enjoy seeing brides feel great in their gowns! Not only was I impressed with the gowns themselves; I also adored the veil choices for the runway. They added an extra amount of charm and can really make a bride go from “I like that style” to “I love that style!”
