History of the something blue

Fashion Fever by Mallory Mayer

Ever wonder where the tradition of wearing something blue came from? Well today you’re in for a little history lesson. Now keep in mind that in today’s day and age, moral, values and ethics vary greatly from years ago, but understanding where the tradition came from could in turn make it more valuable to you and your sweetie.

Wearing something blue dates back to biblical times when the color blue was considered to represent purity, faithfulness and fidelity. Back then the bride would wear a piece of blue clothing or a blue band around the bottom of her dress to subtly relay that message. The ancient Romans also wore blue, on the borders of their robes that is. This would symbolize their love, fidelity and modesty. Christians on the other hand associated the color blue with the purity of the Virgin Mary.

So rather than just sticking a little blue into your attire for the big day, try and incorporate something special. Maybe something with a special meaning or memory. Hope this little history lesson helped you out! Good luck ladies

The Garter: A lost tradition?

Fashion Fever by Mallory Mayer

Well brides, depending on your age, you may or may not want to participate in this tradition. And that’s alright. If you are an older bride, you might not take part due to the fact that your guests are a little older and are probably already married. And if you are a young bride, well, it’s just the opposite.

The garter toss is a tradition that is loved, yet at times a tradition that is loved to be hated. Many often believe it’s out dated and boring. But for those who are interested, today’s bride is searching for something that will embrace her personality, and something that holds a special meaning or memory of you and your sweetie. At times garters can look “frumpy” or “old fashioned” but not to worry, there are plenty of modern pieces I guarantee you’ll love. Whether you as a bride choose to keep it a special secret hidden for your husband’s eyes only, or show it off to the crowd, embracing this tradition is the perfect way to go.

Cut It Out!

Fashion Fever by Mallory Mayer

With the warmer months approaching, we all have our hearts set on warm weather and sunny beaches. Therefore, the swimsuit hunt has begun, and we’re all looking to mirror the fashions of the runway. What’s this summer’s message you ask? Bright, bold and wearable.

This season we’re bringing back the fashions from the past. The playful prints and nautical stripes provide a toned down contrast to the sexy barely-there string bikinis. From seasons past, we’ve seen the one piece re-enter as a stylish, sexy number as opposed to the frumpy, saggy drawer’s image it’s had in years past. But not anymore. This new look will get you saying hello to a fashionable, sexy one piece.

Bringing back the glamorous look of the 70s, cutout pieces are a symbol of sleek, classic style. These cutouts offer the thrill of subtly flashing some skin while still allowing you to remain a little more covered up. Pair it with a big, floppy hat, some stylish sunglasses and delicate sarong and you’ll be ready for the ultimate relaxed, beach time look.

Twirls and Whirls

Fashion Fever by Mallory Mayer

That long anticipated moment is over. The gown that you hemmed and hawed over for months is on waiting to make its grand entrance. The doors open and you’re future awaits you. I do’s are exchanged and suddenly you become someone’s partner for life. What’s next you ask? The reception of course!! It’s party time!!

Now before we jump right onto the dance floor, it’s time for a costume change! Now this may not be the plan for all you brides, but for some, it’s just the perfect amount of surprise. Whether it’s something short or just something that’s just a little slimmer, there are tons of great styles for you to choose from.

Forget about dragging around that heavy gown all night and twirl onto the dance floor in something a little lighter. No matter what you wear, you’ll still be the shining star in the eyes of your guests, and especially to the man you now call your husband.

Diamonds Are A Guys Best Friend?

Fashion Fever by Mallory Mayer

When most think of wedding rings, a very plain, small width, gold band comes to mind. It is probably the same type of wedding ring that our parents, and their parents before them got married with. So I ask, why the same old boring thing? I say move on from this simple boring band and hello to a thrilling new style. After all, your wedding band is something that you will be wearing everyday for the rest of your life!

With so many different wedding band styles out there, it might be hard to choose. There are some sparkling with diamonds, some covered with textured patterns and some created into a crafty elegant design. All of which are uniquely beautiful. But take a guess as to which style is my favorite…You guessed it. Diamonds 🙂

Most men are told that “diamonds are a girl’s best friend,” (and that they are), but to most men this means diamonds are off limits for men. But let me tell you…this is far from the truth! Diamonds are not just for engagement. They are the perfect way to spice up that wedding band. Now I’m not advising suffocating your wedding band in diamonds, but a diamond here, and a diamond there, will surly add just the right amount something you need.

But no matter what style or design you choose, the perfect wedding band is waiting.

The Royal Treatment!

It’s Sarah Burton!! The wedding secret of the century has finally been revealed! The Alexander McQueen designer created this one of a kind royal wedding gown for the one and only Princess Catherine.

Kate’s beautiful silhouette was draped in gorgeous white wedding satin, with a modestly plunging neckline and long white lace sleeves. The bride wore a ‘halo’ tiara atop her hair and a sheer white veil covered her face as she waved to the crowd. Her something borrowed: her crown lent to her by the queen. She also had something new: her jewelry. Her diamond drop earrings, inspired by the Middleton family’s new coat of arms, which were a gift from her parents.

And my favorite part of it all…her beautiful face adorned by make-up she did herself!! I have heard grooms admit before that they didn’t recognize their bride as she approached him at the altar, but not this time. William’s bride was there in the way she has always been. Simple. Elegant. Beautiful.

I have mentioned my love of simple elegance and I further hold it true. This beautiful young princess couldn’t have done it any better.

How To: Unique Bridesmaids Dresses

Fashion Fever by Mallory Mayer

Do you often get the feeling that bridesmaid’s dresses are almost always the same?  Same basic satin with a ribbon around the rib cage? Well I do. Why so plain and simple? There are ways to add a little uniqueness to them without drawing the attention away from the bride. Here are 3 simple and easy tips to bridesmaid’s dresses that are one of a kind!

  1. Play with shades. One of the simplest ways to have unique bridesmaid dresses is to play with the different tones of the color. Many people use basic neutral colors, or use the most prominent color from their bridal décor, but by mixing up the tones of the colors, it allows them to make a statement without being ‘in your face’ bold.
  2. Play with styles. On the contrary of what many think, there is way more options than just long or short.  There’s above the knee, under the knee, mid-calf and long. And who said the dresses had to be satin? Get rid of the heavy straight fabric and look to something like chiffon! Don’t be afraid of different textures; give the dresses some movement and personality. And think about having each bridesmaid wear a different style! This especially works well if your girls have various body types. And although there should be no thunder stealing, you’re bridesmaids should still look hot! Finding something that looks flattering on each person will compliment the overall look of the wedding.
  3. Play with accessories. One method to having a unique bridesmaid dress is to actually leave the dress alone and simply play it up with jewelry and accessories. Let’s say you want to adorn your girls with pearls. Each girl should have pearls incorporated into their look just in a different manner. Maybe one with a pearl necklace, one with a bracelet, one with a hair accessory, etc.

With these simple and easy steps, you will be well on your way to those one of a kind bridesmaids dresses you always dreamed of!
