…Paper, Scissors!

Diary of a Bride to be by Lauren Cooper

Forgive me if I’m dwelling, but these programs are truly consuming most of my bridal stress for now.

Since we last spoke, even the professionals at Office Depot were having trouble printing the paper.  As of Friday, they were able to get 143 of the first page and 142 of the second page.  That’s the good news.  The bad news is that 90 pages jammed.  Back to Paper-Source I went to order more of our special paper which should arrive today.  Plus, (here’s my customer service plug) they even said they wouldn’t charge us for our additional copies since it was their machine that was having an issue.  🙂

The tedious part is cutting the panels out.  Last weekend my mom, Future Hubs and my step dad spent an hour cutting the first three panels and got 10 or done.  This past weekend, I think we got  up to 25…of the first three panels.  So they’re not even 25 complete programs.  Ugh.  I’ve begun recruiting my friends for cutting parties since it’s such a slow process.

In other wedding news:  Rsvps are coming in steadily!  Travel to the ceremony site has been arranged for out of town guests without cars AND we even had to reserve additional rooms in our hotel block!  🙂

Mother of the Bride

Fashion Fever by Aly Dailey

Even though the wedding day is all about the bride and groom it’s a huge day for their mothers too. Everyone watches as they walk into the ceremony, not to mention all the pictures they’ll be in, so it’s important not to forget about the mother of the bride or the mother of the groom.

It’s time to stop thinking about the bride’s gown and start thinking about your own outfit! Follow these tips when deciding what to wear:

– Be sure to shop early, but after the bride has gotten her own gown

– Make sure to find out exactly what the bride has in mind for your outfit and how to dress for your role

– Keep the look and formality of your dress cohesive with that of the bridal party

– Stay away from white, cream, or ivory

– Talk to Mother of the Groom to ensure complimentary but not matching attire

REMEMBER: Gone are the days of drab and frumpy MOB dresses.

Your mom has been there for you your whole life, it;’s important that she feel special and beautiful on the wedding day too.

Arbors, Altars, and Chuppahs

It’s All in the Details by Aly Dailey

Traditionally, a chuppah is a canopy under which a Jewish couple stands during their wedding ceremony. It is open on all sides to the couple’s community, family, and friends. It is supported by four poles and symbolizes the home that the couple will build together.

These days, however, many outdoor weddings include arbors and altars resembling the ancient Jewish chuppah. When planning their weddings most brides place the focus on reception décor but don’t forget about the décor of the ceremony!

The more traditional chuppah was made out of a Jewish prayer shawl but today’s brides are building their canopies out of vintage lace and even the fabric from their mother’s wedding dress.

To fit with the setting of the wedding brides are building pieces out of rustic wood or wintry birch limbs and many are overflowing with fresh flowers. You can also adorn them with feathers, lanterns, or details specific to the bride and groom.

You don’t have to practice Judaism to include this beautiful detail in your wedding. It’s the perfect addition to a wedding in the woods or on the beach. So if your venue is feeling a little sparse incorporate this unique and beautiful tradition into your big day!

April Showers

Diary of a Bride to be by Lauren Cooper

This weekend I had my second dress fitting, so we went home to Maryland.  As an added bonus, we were headed to my grandmother’s house under the ruse of a makeup party, when in fact, it was a shower for me!  I was happy and shocked to see cousins and great-aunts that I hadn’t seen in quite a long time.  We spent a nice afternoon at Nana’s playing games, opening gifts and eating yummy finger sandwiches!  Thanks to my mom, my sister and grandmother for a such a nice day!

DIY Update:  We tried printing the programs using mom’s laser printer, since ours wouldn’t grab the thick card-stock.  We got a few done, but then the printer decided it didn’t like the paper anymore.  So, I dropped the rest off at Office Depot today…and even they were having jamming troubles, so keep your fingers crossed!

Bonus, we got our first three RSVPs in the mail today!!! 🙂

Email Invitations: The Do’s and Dont’s

Manic Mondays by Jennifer Diehl

In a time where people are shopping, ordering dinner, and paying bills online; is it acceptable to send out invitations online?  The answer can get a bit sticky.  For a girls night out; yes!  A super bowl party; Sure!  A dinner party; why not?  For your wedding invitation?  Not recommended.  Yes, you might think that it’s a “green” alternative, but there are plenty of stationers with recycled paper options.  There are also some etiquette taboos involved:

  • Not everyone has an email account, or checks it regularly. (Trust, me it’s true!)
  • It’s very easy for you to misspell their email address, then they will never get it!
  • Your email can fall right into their spam folder, and never be seen.
  • Emailing wedding invitations is not very personal.  Your wedding invites should convey your colors and theme of the wedding as well as the couples personal style.  This is more difficult to do with a e-vite where you’re often limited to their selections
  • Wedding invitations are often hung on refrigerators, and saved in scrap book for memories; you can’t quite do that with an online invitation.

Paper is still the better solution, but if you DO decide on E-vites here are a few tips to follow!

  • Be sure to double check that you have the accurate email address!
  • Make sure you include all of the important information (who is hosting, where, when, and RSVP details).
  • Proofread before you send it!
  • Be prepared to follow up by phone if you don’t receive a RSVP
  • Check with your family members to see if they’re comfortable with this solution…especially if they’re paying for the wedding!

Sending an E-vite can definitely save you money and time, and get you a quick RSVP. (Well, sometimes)  An online wedding invitation can also allow you to link to your wedding website for directions and other pertinent details.  The downside is, not everyone (your Great Aunt) will understand what to do with an e-vite.  Whether its print or online the only important thing is you that you keep it stress free!
