Its All In The Details: Water Colors

Its All In The Details: Alyssa Aiola

Remember when you were little and you thought you were creating art masterpieces by blending all your watercolor paints together, well now you can be one! One of the biggest wedding trends and themes for Summer 2013 is the use of watercolors throughout your wedding. This theme is not only fun but it also is extremely feminine and romantic if you properly balance out the use of pastel shades with the soft texture of handmade brush stores. This trend is popping up everywhere from invitations, escort cards, backdrops, decor and even cakes. If your husband feels the theme might be to feminine, a great way to balance out the pastels is with a shade of navy blue.  Here are a few of our favorite wedding details sharing the wedding theme of water colors, let us know what you think!

It’s all in the Details: Table Numbers

It’s all in the Details by Alyssa Aiola

Making sure every table is clearly labeled with a specific number is important since it allows the guest to navigate directly to their seat via seating cards. Although some people fear their table number cards might look out of place with centerpieces, there are so many great ideas that can incorporate any color pallet or theme.

  • Picture Frames / Mirrors – One of the most convenient and versatile ways to show off your table numbers is through picture frames. Choose from any size, shape or color, the customization is completely up to you!
  • Chalk Boards – Similar to picture frames, min chalkboards are a great inexpensive way to make your table numbers stand out and keep the vintage vibe.
  • Rustic Nails – If you are going for a much more rustic feel with a quick DIY project than this idea is perfect! Take a block of wood and trace the desired number with a piece of white chalk. Next take nails (medium sized) and hammer them directly over the number traced keeping the nails close together so they overlap.
  • Balloons – Nothing will grab your guest’s attention like a balloon elevated in the air to represent their table number. With the number soaring above the party, guests will be able to find their table with ease.  This look will work best with smaller centerpieces.
  • Wine – Who wouldn’t want their table number shown off through beautiful and classic wine bottles.  This inexpensive and custom burlap wine bag can be made in any color and add the perfect flare to any bottle.  This laser expression butterfly table number bottle wrap is an elegant alternative to transforming any regular bottle to wedding décor.
  • Jack-o-lantern – Having a fall or Halloween inspired wedding?! What better way to incorporate your theme then to carve the table numbers into jack-o-lanterns! All you need is a carving kit and candles!

Its All in the Details by Aly Dailey

Fans are a great addition for a spring, summer, or beach wedding.  They can make an elegant favor, a program, a place-card holder, or just something to keep your guests cool at your outdoor ceremony!

Try this fun and easy DIY Fan Project:

– Print the fan template HERE and cut them out using a craft knife and cutting board

– Select a sheet of colored paper for the front of the fan, and use a pencil to trace the fan template onto it four times, rotating and flipping the template along the straight edges to complete the shape. Then roughly cut out about 1″ around the traced shape.

– Brush acid-free paper glue over the back of the paper shape and press it onto a piece of cardboard. Let dry.

-Use a craft knife to carefully cut around the traced shape through both layers.

– Brush Glue over the cardboard side and press it onto the second sheet of colored paper. Let dry and trim the excess paper from the back of the fan.

-Select scrap paper for the hearts and vines templates and cut them out. Optional: Type, Handwrite, or draw calligraphy on one of the hearts to personalize it.

– Brush the backs of the hearts and vines with glue and arrange as desired on the fan.

– Squeeze a 3″ line of hot glue along one end of a wood craft stick and press it, centered, onto the bottom back of the fan as the handle. Optional: Type, handwrite, or draw a little saying in calligraphy (“I’m your biggest fan”) on a small paper scrap. Cut it into a strip and glue it to the handle of the fan.

Arbors, Altars, and Chuppahs

It’s All in the Details by Aly Dailey

Traditionally, a chuppah is a canopy under which a Jewish couple stands during their wedding ceremony. It is open on all sides to the couple’s community, family, and friends. It is supported by four poles and symbolizes the home that the couple will build together.

These days, however, many outdoor weddings include arbors and altars resembling the ancient Jewish chuppah. When planning their weddings most brides place the focus on reception décor but don’t forget about the décor of the ceremony!

The more traditional chuppah was made out of a Jewish prayer shawl but today’s brides are building their canopies out of vintage lace and even the fabric from their mother’s wedding dress.

To fit with the setting of the wedding brides are building pieces out of rustic wood or wintry birch limbs and many are overflowing with fresh flowers. You can also adorn them with feathers, lanterns, or details specific to the bride and groom.

You don’t have to practice Judaism to include this beautiful detail in your wedding. It’s the perfect addition to a wedding in the woods or on the beach. So if your venue is feeling a little sparse incorporate this unique and beautiful tradition into your big day!

Walk Down the Aisle in Style!

It’s All in the Details by Jennifer Diehl

Tired of common wedding traditions? Allergic to flowers? Do you want to be a little different?

Imagine the look on your guests faces when they see you walking down the aisle holding a stunning brooch bouquet! This unique wedding trend is really catching on. Create a beautiful and trendy look with a touch of elegance. A brooch bouquet is a collection of brooches stemmed and wound together tying in the theme of your wedding. These are great options for brides who would rather have something more original and maybe a little vintage. Worried about the cost? Some brides have made it themselves with the help of their creative bridesmaids. Satin sashes, strings of pearls, and colorful ribbon are just a few materials that can enhance the look of your bouquet. If you’re not a DIY type of person, don’t worry you can have one custom made, as many brides have mentioned.

Just to name a few, these can be purchased at:

www.fantasyfloraldesigns.com

www.etsy.com/shop/broochbouquets

www.RubyPlaza.com (keyword-brooch bouquets)

The exciting thing about the brooch bouquet is that you can include your family and friends by having them give you one of their own brooches’…making them that much more a part of your wedding. Talk about a great way to turn something old into something new! No two brooch bouquets will ever be the same, and each one tells a story.
