Amaze your guests with these chocolate menus from Candy Art USA.  Not only are they a unique alternative to paper menus but they also double as a favor. Start by choosing white, milk, dark, or even marbled Belgian chocolate. Then customize your menu by adding a colored photo (edible of course), monogram, or border. The lettering can be painted with edible gold or silver, or feel free to leave it plain.

If you don’t love the idea of a chocolate menu, a chocolate save-the-date could be for you. 😉

What’s a better way to customize your cocktail hour than by having personalized cocktail napkins?

Print the logo from your save-the-dates, invites or menu cards onto your napkins like this couple did:

I love these “did you know” napkins. It’s a great way for your guests to learn fun facts about you and start conversations at the bar!

Cocktail napkins are also a great (and super easy!)  way to incorporate your color scheme.

Engagement Chicken

Fashionable Foodie by Markia Raveau-Violette

While searching for a something to cook for dinner I came across this recipe for “engagement chicken.” This meal is said to inspire men to pop the question to their girlfriends. The engagement chicken got it’s name about 30 years ago when Kim Bonnel, the fashion editor of Glamour magazine, passed this recipe on to her assistant. After making the meal for her boyfriend, he proposed to her a month later. Since then, this recipe has been passed along with more and more men proposing to their girlfriends after eating this meal. Does it actually work? Who knows, I guess we’ll just have to try it and find out 😉

The Vegetarian Bride

Fashionable Foodie by Markia Raveau-Violette

As a vegetarian, you wouldn’t cook meat for your guests at home, so should you serve it to them at your wedding? If you have strong beliefs about not eating meat, or any animal products for that matter, would you go against them just to please your guests? Planning your wedding can be difficult enough without worry about what you should serve. Here are some tips to planning a vegan/vegetarian menu that all of your guests will enjoy:

1. Work with your caterer: Let them know that you are only planning on serving vegetarian options. If the choices they present you are not what you had in mind, bring them a recipe that you love. Most caterers will be more than happy to help create the perfect menu.

2. Have variety: You may love Soba Noodles with Peanut Sauce, but that might not be something your guests would choose. Choose menu items that will be a hit with the meat eaters as well as your vegetarian guests.

3. Stick to your guns: You may have a lot of people who will try to persuade you to have at least have one meat option, but if this is what you believe in stick to it. Show everyone that you can hold an amazing meatless reception that everyone will enjoy!

Having a small wedding and looking for ways to make it even more intimate? A long table could be just the thing to add that little extra touch. Instead of separating your guests by having them seated at different tables, bring everyone together to enjoy each others company. Long tables create a totally different vibe then smaller, round tables do. Guests can mingle and interact with other guests, and everyone will be seated with the Bride & Groom. If this doesn’t convince you, take a look at these beautiful long tables:

Italian Wedding Bombonieres

Fashionable Foodie by Markia Raveau-Violette

Many Italian couples will hand out bomboniere’s, which means “favors.” Bomboniere’s are more commonly known as Jordan almonds, or “confetti.” The tradition of handing out wedding favors dates back to the middle ages. At that time favors symbolized a link between the two families. Bomboniere’s became more popular around the 13th century when Europe was introduced to refined sugar. At that time, sweets were expensive and richer people used it to show off their wealth. But of course, with industrialization came a decline is price, and it became common to give bomboniere’s as favors.

While they has become more popular, bomboniere’s have the same meanings. A bomboniere with three almonds symbolizes the couple and a child. One with five almonds symbolizes happiness, long life, fertility, wealth, and health. And the almond coated in thick sugar? That symbolizes the bittersweet nature of a marriage.

In Your Face

Fashionable Foodie by Markia Raveau-Violette

It’s uncertain when newlyweds began smashing cake in each others faces. It seems to have started in Rome where the Groom would break a loaf of bread over the Bride’s head to bring good luck, a long life, and many children. Or as a sign of dominance. Guests would then pick up any crumbs that fell to the floor to bring them luck. This tradition evolved when cakes became more predominant in weddings. Brides would pass pieces of the cake through their wedding rings to guests for them to place under their pillow for luck. This also sparked the tradition of the Groom’s cake. But because this took a long time, it stopped being practiced and a piece of cake was cut for each guest. From this emerged smashing cake into each other’s faces. It is debated to be a sign of domination, whoever smashes a bigger piece will have more control in the marriage, or a sign of good luck for the newlyweds. Whichever you believe, feeding (or smashing) the first slice of cake also symbolizes a new couple’s willingness to share a household and is one of the first acts they do as husband and wife.
